This 10,000-square-foot brownstone residence was a complete gut, including excavating 13 feet deep in the cellar and adding an entire steel skeleton. The back of the building was removed and reconfigured to allow for a backyard and a 26-foot-tall curtain wall of glass. The front of the building was restored to its original glory with the addition of a proper stoop, with matching historical details. To help maintain the spirit, the original parlor-level staircase was refurbished with new steel supports, and the office furniture was fabricated using reclaimed wood from the original house.
