MCM NYPark Avenue Prestige

A rare Rosario Candela masterpiece, Park Avenue Prestige called for a careful balance of historic restoration and thoughtful contemporary renovation. Originally a grand duplex, the residence was divided in the 1970s and altered by decades of later renovations. Demolition uncovered remarkable features hidden for generations, including vaulted ceilings rising more than 30 feet and windows that had been buried for decades. These discoveries came to shape the entire project. The historic layout of the entrance gallery and formal rooms was preserved, and the original 1928 detailing was meticulously restored. The lower level, once staff quarters, became a series of sophisticated children’s spaces, and the kitchen was completely redesigned. Every new element was worked in so the contemporary spaces feel native to the residence rather than imposed on it. The result honors Candela’s architecture while meeting the demands of modern family life: an exercise in discovery, restraint and precision.
